Bible Prophecy and Eschatology, why are they so important?

Ever since I found my special gift of Faith and was saved, I have been fascinated, literally consumed with Bible Prophecy and Eschatology.  It is so important that we all know and understand Bible Prophecy, and Eschatology; after all, Bible Prophecy makes up 27% of the Bible so I plan to make it a big part of this Blog.

What is Bible Prophecy and Eschatology? Well, Bible Prophecy is “the inspired, divine revelation or foretelling of historical events, written in advance of those events, pertaining to the unfolding of God’s Plan for mankind.”  A shorter definition is “foretelling the future.”  Eschatology comes from the Greek word eschatos, which means “last.”  Eschatology is thus the study of the end of things, the ultimate resolution of the entire creation.

The reason Bible Prophecy makes up 27% or more of the Bible is to bring you to God, by showing you things that he foretold centuries before their fulfillment, such as Ezekiel’s prophecy on the rebirth of Israel, Ezekiel 36:24-27 which miraculously took place in May 1948, and many others that can be proven by history.  God wants you in his fold before His end-time predictions take place, and many of those are being fulfilled right now. I personally believe we are in the last hours now.  For that very reason, Bible Prophecy and Eschatology must be studies so that we can be prepared.

Isaiah 46:9-10

9 (A)Remember the former things of old,
For I am God, and (B)there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like Me,
10 (C)Declaring the end from the beginning,
And from ancient times things that are not yet done,
Saying, (D)‘My counsel shall stand,
And I will do all My pleasure,’

NKJV

2 Peter 1:20-21

20 knowing this first, that (A)no prophecy of Scripture is of any private [a]interpretation, 21 for (B)prophecy never came by the will of man, (C)but [b]holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

NKJV

We are all called to proclaim and heed the whole counsel of God.  There are large sections of Scripture devoted to Prophecy, many have already been fulfilled, and many of which still need to be fulfilled. For example, the events of Ezekiel 36-48 still need to occur. In the New Testament, passages like Matthew 24-25, Mark 13, much of Luke 21, 1 Thess. 4-5, 2 Tess 1-2, 2 Pete 3, and Revelation 6-22 describe events that still need to happen.  We cannot ignore these passages. Paul says in Acts 20:27, “I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God.”  I challenge you to read and meditate on each of these passages now for yourself.

End-time predictions are quite bleak, and I believe that they should be presented to everyone to prepare us for the wrath that is coming.  Remember, God gave us Bible Prophecy to prepare us, not scare us.

The good news is that none of us must go through that wrath if we will just turn our lives over to, and accept, Jesus Christ as our Savior. It only takes a minute to do this, to admit that you are a sinner, that you cannot earn salvation on your own, and that you need Jesus to give you the gift of salvation by having faith in Jesus.

God has truly given us our entire future from the end to the beginning, exactly what our fate is. It is up to each of us to decide weather or not we will be a believer and follow Him, or suffer the consequences. The first Bible Prophecy was recorded in the first book of the Bible, Genesis 3:15 and fulfilled in Galatians 4:4. It’s a big one, so I challenge you to study that very first Prophecy on your own. I will circle back in the next article and dive into more of these amazing God given Prophecies.
